Hiking tips

Märzengrund circular hiking trail

From the Tannenalm, a small forest path winds its way down into the wild and romantic Märzenklamm gorge. You hike leisurely along the rushing Märzenbach stream to a forest road, on which you briefly walk the last stretch into the mysterious Gmünder valley basin in the Märzengrund. The forest road takes you back to the model aeroplane paradise. You can also vary the circular hike on the way back with an ascent via the Triplonalm area to the Schartenjoch. As there are no refreshment stops along the hiking trail, we recommend taking a break in the middle of a dreamy alpine meadow and stopping for a romantic picnic.

Kapaunsalm

At the road junction before the Tannenalm, turn left into Märzengrund and then right onto the hiking trail to the forest road. Already hungry from the fresh forest air? From Koglanger, you can walk through lush forests and meadows to the Kapaunsalm at 1,911 metres, where a hearty snack awaits you in the rustic hut. And how about a summit victory to boot? From the hut, it's just a short walk to the Kapaunser Jöchl or you can climb even higher up to the Rifflerkogel at 2,496 metres.

Mountain biking

Cycle along an incredible 1,200 km of bike routes in the Zillertal through a colourful natural paradise and discover new perspectives.

Cycling tips

Märzengrund

From the Tannenalm you cycle along the forest road into the beautiful Märzengrund, a vast alpine pasture area where time seems to stand still. Bike and hike! In combination with short hikes, you can cycle over the Koatalm to the Sonnjoch and across to the Alpbachtal or over the Torhelm into the Gerlostal.

Kapauns

Or you can choose the equally exciting route via the Kapaunsalm to the Kreuzjochhütte and from the Rosenalm into the valley to Zell am Ziller. If you are looking for even more bike action, you can also return to Gerlos via the Rosenalm.
